Collo Progress Report (3/24/2020)

While this has truly been a crazy semester with the coronavirus shutting down the school and everyone being forced to transition to online classes, my focus and attention have definitely been distracted by a lot of emerging complications from this issue. THis pressing global problem has also affected my Collo project this semester, where I wanted to research more into graduate school and learn more about the application process and requirements. I had been trying to carry on my plan of reaching out to at least 8 graduate schools by the end of the semester; however, since schools across the country have been shutting down, this goal has been harder to accomplish. I have still been able to spend several hours continuing my research of what grad school looks like, how to apply, and how to set myself apart from other candidates. While they are officially shut-down, UNC is still resuming operations in an online capacity, and I was able to reach out to their admissions team to their College of Business and ask them inquiries I had about their MBA program which I am very attracted to. I had a very good exchange with them, and learned a lot about their grad school program. I plan to continue my efforts with this project throughout the remainder of the semester, and I will see it through until these pressing issues subside.

Volunteering at Service Saturday 3/7/2020

This past weekend I volunteered at the Salvation Army store in Johnson City, TN. As president of Beta Alpha Psi, an honors organization for accounting, finance, and computer science majors, I made the suggestion that we complete our required volunteering event for the semester by participating in ETSU’s Service Saturday program put on by the service group Volunteer ETSU. As a group, we were assigned to the Salvation Army store off East Main Street in Johnson City, and there we volunteered from 8am-1pm helping sort through donations and categorizing them, as well as perform general cleaning tasks like sweeping, dusting, arranging, and organizing. Myself and another volunteer also had to help patrons of the store move heavier items to their vehicles like chairs and large rugs. I have participated in about 5 or 6 service Saturdays now, but I have never had the chance to volunteer at the Salvation Army location. While it was not as exciting as Habitat for Humanity, Appalachian Service Project, or the Boys and Girls club, I had a good time getting to know the other volunteers and meeting and talking to some of the patrons of the Salvation Army.

Collo Project Report 2/21/20

This semester I wanted to research more into graduate school and learn more about the application process and requirements. Although this is a broad and vague goal, I did make a more concrete plan by setting a goal for myself to reach out to at least 8 graduate schools by the end of the semester. In this first month and a half of school now, I have spent several hours researching what grad school looks like, how to apply, how to bolster my candidate profile, and have had a couple conversations with people in ETSU’s grad school about how rigorous and tough it is. In my next report, I plan to actually have reached out to some grad schools, with a few on my mind being UNC, Florida, UGA, UTK, and Duke.

Collo Project Report Due 12/3/2019

I have continued the goal I set earlier this semester of striving to sustain an overall healthier diet and be more conscious about healthier eating habits. The initial benchmark I had set when embarking on this goal a few weeks back was to lose 10 lbs at least by the end of the semester. As I disclosed in my previous post, I have been able to accomplish this initial goal, and since have increased my goal to 20 lbs by the end of the semester. I have continued to go to the CPA 6 out of 7 days(with a rest day on Sunday) and have continued doing more cardio in addition to my weight workouts. I have continued on putting more emphasis towards more fat-burning exercises as to be more aggressive about my weight loss goals, such as medicine balls slams, jump roping, and swimming. In my lost post I had reported that I lost an additional five pounds, and while Thanksgiving break certainly offset some of my progress, I still was able to lose a net 5 pounds over these past few weeks since my last post. Here at the end of the semester now, I would say I am very happy with my effort and have been successful in my pursuit of this goal!

Collo Volunteering Report 11/6/2019

This past weekend I volunteered at the Holsten Habitat for Humanity Restore Center in Johnson City, TN. While in my previous years here at ETSU I did this through Volunteer ETSU and their monthly Service Saturday program, I could not find any such event taking place even after I emailed the organization’s president. Yet, still needing to get my Collo volunteer hours in, I went by myself this weekend and volunteered from 8-1(5 hours) and did a number of tasks in the Habitat retail store, arguably my favorite place here in Johnson City to volunteer. I moved cases and boxes around, organized glassware, and primarily assembled Christmas trees and helped move them to the Christmas section, much like I did last year during the middle of October.  I particularly enjoy volunteering at this site among the other places we go to volunteer because I deeply respect the work Habitat does and because of the history I have with volunteering with them back in Chattanooga and North Georgia.

Collo Project Report due 11/5/2019

I have continued the goal I set earlier on this semester of maintaining an overall healthier diet and take on healthier eating habits. The initial benchmark I had set when embarking on this goal a few weeks back was to lose 10 lbs at least by the end of the semester. I have continued to go to the CPA 6 out of 7 days(with a rest day on Sunday) and have incorporated more cardio into my weight workouts about 5 times a week. I have actually concentrated on more fat-burning exercises to be more aggressive about my weight loss goals, such as medicine balls slams, jump roping, and even swimming. I am proud to say that in the past 4 weeks since my last post I have lost another 8 lbs! I look forward to report more progress in my next progress report!

Collo Project Report 5/1/2019

In my final collo update, I have continued taking a ballroom dance class in order to build up my dancing skillset. I have continued attending the Tuesday night ballroom dance class offered at 6 in the CPA. Since my last update where the class had explored Rhumba, I have been exposed to the Tango, which is one of the most rhythmic dances I have tried out thus far. I have still enjoyed the Foxtrot the most; however, since the music typically played with it has a jazzy feel paired best with a saxophone.

Collo Honors Event(3/29/19)

Yesterday, I both attended and volunteered at the Boland Undergraduate Research Symposium for my Honors event requirement. For my volunteering responsibilities, I served as a monitor ensuring that every person coming into the lunch provided had a ticket and were there to attend the Boland. Through this, I was also able to listen in on the boland speakers and performers, which I found very interesting and informative. I was able to witness the blue grass band and some of the performing arts scenes.

Collo Project Report 3/26/19

This semester I have continued taking a ballroom dance class in order to build up my dancing skillset. I have continued attending the Tuesday night ballroom dance class offered at 6 in the CPA. Since my last update where the class had explored Rhumba, I have been able to experience the Foxtrot. Up to this point, the Foxtrot dance has probably been my favorite because of how rhythmic it is and the style of music that is typically played with it.
